Decommissioned Fire Hose
The wear and tear on each piece of fire hose will vary slightly. Fire departments color code their hose. These bags are made from supply line (hose) and attack line. Supply line is big and round and usually pretty stiff and goes from the water source to the pumper. Attack line is smaller and often softer and goes from the pumper into the fire. The supply line is orange and yellow and the attack line is blue and green. You may notice that some of our bags are stiffer than others. This is because some is made from supply line and some from attack line.
Waxed Canvas
The best quality waxed canvas in the United States is used. It is waxed by hand using real beeswax. The process starts with 9 ounce weight cotton canvas and then 3 ounces of beeswax is added to each yard. The beeswax makes the canvas water repellant, adds durability, and patinas beautifully.
Note: A large expense in making the Burn Bags is cleaning the hose with D7. This product works to break down and neutralize carcinogens in the hose. You can learn more about this product here: https://www.decon7.com
